Stash: Remember Everything vs Apple Notes

Last checked: October 22, 2026

The short version

Pick Stash if you want notes that organize themselves and an MCP server Claude or ChatGPT can use.

Pick Apple Notes if you want the notes app already on your Apple devices, including audio recording and transcription on supported iPhones.

"In the Notes app, you can record audio and have the spoken words transcribed to text." (Apple iPhone User Guide)

Stash: Remember Everything, by Grafted Software

Capture. Type or speak in the app (speech to text), use the share sheet, the Home Screen widget, or the Shortcuts extension, or dictate on Apple Watch. Stash does not record meeting audio. Offline notes queue on the device and are summarized when you are back online.

AI organization. Zero prompts. Every note comes back with a summary and tags, stored as Markdown. Deep Research is a separate report you start on a summarized note.

Agent access. Stash runs a hosted MCP server. Search, read, update, and delete are free. Creating notes and Deep Research use a monthly allowance: 30 summaries and 5 Deep Research reports per UTC month on the free plan. Ask (questions across your notes) needs Stash Pro. Agents can write back.

Export. PDF or Markdown.

Privacy. Encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, not end to end. Summaries use Anthropic's Claude through OpenRouter.

Platforms. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. No Mac, web, or Android app yet.

Price. Free to download. The free plan is 30 summaries and 5 Deep Research reports per UTC month. Stash Pro is an optional App Store subscription that raises those limits.

Apple Notes

What Apple documents. The iPhone User Guide says Notes can record audio and transcribe the spoken words on iPhone 12 and later, when the device language is English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese.

Summaries. The same guide says Apple Intelligence can summarize a recording on a supported iPhone, and that Apple Intelligence is not available in every language or region.

Agent access. That guide does not describe an MCP server or a way for Claude or ChatGPT to read the notes.

Where it runs. The guide is about the Notes app on iPhone. It does not describe Apple Watch capture, so this page does not claim a watch app.

Not verified on the pages checked today, so not compared here: Apple Watch capture, iCloud encryption, and any third-party bridge that might expose Notes to an agent.
