The short version
Pick Stash if you want a hosted notes library that agents can read from any MCP client, including notes captured on iPhone.

"Record, and it's already text. AI drafts the minutes." (Nib homepage)

Stash: Remember Everything, by Grafted Software
Capture. Type or speak in the app (speech to text), use the share sheet, the Home Screen widget, or the Shortcuts extension, or dictate on Apple Watch. Stash does not record meeting audio. Offline notes queue on the device and are summarized when you are back online.
AI organization. Zero prompts. Every note comes back with a summary and tags, stored as Markdown. Deep Research is a separate report you start on a summarized note.
Agent access. Stash runs a hosted MCP server. Search, read, update, and delete are free. Creating notes and Deep Research use a monthly allowance: 30 summaries and 5 Deep Research reports per UTC month on the free plan. Ask (questions across your notes) needs Stash Pro. Agents can write back.
Export. PDF or Markdown.
Privacy. Encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, not end to end. Summaries use Anthropic's Claude through OpenRouter.
Platforms. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. No Mac, web, or Android app yet.
Price. Free to download. The free plan is 30 summaries and 5 Deep Research reports per UTC month. Stash Pro is an optional App Store subscription that raises those limits.
Nib
What they say. Their homepage says transcription runs on the device, for a notepad on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and that AI changes wait until you approve them.
Capture. The homepage says recording and transcription work offline, and that Apple Watch can record quick memos which are transcribed on iPhone, or start and stop an iPhone recording.
Privacy. The homepage says transcription, search, and on-device summaries run on the device, recorded audio is not uploaded, and no account is required. Cloud AI sends only the excerpts a request needs.
Agent access. The App Store listing says a local MCP server on Mac lets assistants search, read, and add notes.
Pricing. The App Store listing says the free plan limits a recording to 30 minutes, and that Nib Pro adds unlimited recording length, AI minutes, and library-wide chat.
Not verified on the pages checked today, so not compared here: the Nib Pro price, and whether that Mac MCP server is available from iPhone.
When to pick them instead
- You want transcription and search on the device, with audio that is not uploaded.
- You want a native Mac notepad.
- You want live translation of a recording on the device.
